José Cóceres (born August 14, 1963 in Chaco , Argentina ) is a professional golfer of the North American PGA TOUR .

Cóceres grew up as one of 11 children in poor circumstances. He became a caddy and learned the game of golf himself. In 1986 Cóceres started his professional career and in 1990 qualified for the European Tour. After two bumpy seasons, he began to stabilize from 1993 and in 2000 reached his best place in the money list, a 13th place.

In 2001 Cóceres moved to PGA TOUR , where he played inconsistently, but caused a sensation with two wins in his first season. Especially since he was the first Argentine since 1968 ( Roberto DeVicenzo ) to win a PGA TOUR event. Cóceres broke an arm in early 2002 and has been fighting to catch up ever since.

José Cóceres also won several tournaments in his homeland and in Latin America. He was named Argentina's Sportsman of the Year in 2001 with the Olimpia de Oro .
