Coordinates: 32 ° 6 ′ S , 115 ° 47 ′ E The City of Cockburn is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . Cockburn belongs to the metropolis of Perth , the capital of Western Australia. The area is 168 km² and has about 89,700 inhabitants.
Cockburn is on the west coast south of the Swan River about 15 to 25 kilometers southwest of Perth city center . The seat of the City Council is in the Spearwood district in the western half of the LGA, where around 10,000 people live (2016).

The Cockburn Council has ten members, nine councilors are elected by the residents of the three wards (three each from the Central, East and West Ward). The mayor (mayor) and council chairman is also elected by all residents of the city.
