Cockroach (Eng. "Kakerlake") is a German death and thrash metal band from Stuttgart- Bad Cannstatt , which was formed in 1992.
history
The band was founded in March 1992 by drummer Alexander "Ali" Reichelt and guitarists Ulrich "Uli" Mewes and Frank Geue. Together they worked on the first songs, while singer Reiner Striegel joined the band. In 1995 Klaus Hoffer joined the line-up as bass player. At the beginning of 1996 singer Striegel left the band, so that guitarist Frank Geue now also took the position of singer. At the end of the year the band went into the studio to record their first demo Fi (r) st , which was released in April 1997. In October 1998 Jürgen Kimmel joined the band as the new bass player, because Klaus Hoffer had left the band for personal reasons and they had played without a bass player for a while. At the end of July 1999 the band recorded their debut album No Compromise in the Sub Zero Studios in Backnang . At the end of the year, bassist Jürgen Kimmel left the band, so that from the beginning of 2000 Timo Flöther took his place. The band then went into the studio to record their next album, which was released in February 2003 under the name Temple of Mystery via Supreme Chaos Records . It was recorded at Sub Zero Studios, with the album being mixed by Alexander Krull ( Atrocity ). In April 2006 the album The Observer followed on Supreme Chaos Records, which was followed in July 2012 by Judgment Day on Gegenentrend Records .
After 25 years, Reichelt left the line-up in June 2016 for personal reasons and was replaced by Erik Stegmaier in September. The bassist Timo Flöther had already left the band in January 2014 and was replaced in January 2016 by Oliver "Oli" Zimmermann. Next, in January 2018, guitarist Mewes announced his departure for health and professional reasons. Marc Bayer was found to replace him. Zimmermann left in January 2019 and was replaced by bassist Gert Wiedmann in April.
style
The band plays a mixture of death and thrash metal, whereby the clear vocals of Frank Geue, which is interrupted by screams, are particularly characteristic.
