Monosigidae
The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.
The Monosigidae were a taxon of the so-called frilled flagellates . They comprised seven genera, which were characterized by the (apparent) lack of a housing within the frilled flagellates. Later phylogenetic studies led to the merging of the taxon with the Salpingoecidae to form the Craspedida group .
features
There is no housing or it is only designed as a thin, separate cup made of organic material, which cannot be seen with a light microscope . Except for the species of the genus Monosiga , all species are colony-forming.
The clearly pronounced collar stands like a circle around the base of a single flagellum located in front ; freshwater forms have contractile vacuoles at their rear end . All species multiply by dividing lengthways.
distribution
Species of the Monosigidae are found in fresh, brackish and marine water.
Systematics
The group, first described by William Saville Kent as the Codonosigidae family from 1880 to 1882 and newly described as Monosigidae by Zhukov and Karpov in 1985, comprised seven genera:
