The dragonfly-like (Coenagrionoidea) form a superfamily within the subordination of the dragonflies (Zygoptera). A variety of species of all sizes and shapes are assigned to this superfamily, including both the smallest and largest known dragonflies.

features

The fore and hind wings are, as with all dragonflies, more or less the same. The wings attached to the thorax with a stalk are generally uncolored. There are always two antenodal cross-arteries in front of the node. In most species, the postnodal transverse veins merge into the transverse veins running through the width of the wing.

distribution

Representatives of the slender vial-like are common worldwide. In Europe they are represented by the families of the slender dragonflies (Coenagrionidae) and the feather dragonflies (Platycnemididae). The latter can be recognized by the broadening of the tibiae of the middle and rear pairs of legs. This characteristic can be found in different forms in all males and partly also females of this family, which is restricted to the Old World . The otherwise very similar, species-rich and worldwide widespread family of slender vials does not have this characteristic.

The other representatives of the slender dragonfly-like are mostly found in tropical rainforests. Representatives of the Isostictidae family are restricted to Australasia , their representatives are very slender with particularly narrow wings. The Platystictidae have conspicuously long and thin abdomen and short wings, they are found in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America as well as East Asia. The Protoneuridae family, which is very rich in species and variants, occurs in tropical forests all over the world. The family Pseudostigmatidae is limited to the rainforests of Central and South America, it includes the largest known representatives of the dragonflies with a body length of up to 21 centimeters.
