Coffee Stain Studios is a Swedish game developer based in Skövde . The company is one of three subsidiaries of the Swedish Embracer Group . Under the label Coffee Stain Publishing , the company acts not only in its own productions but also as a publisher for the games of other development teams. The company is known for the game Goat Simulator , initially planned as a joke , a simulation in which the player controls a goat .

Coffee Stain Studios was founded as a start-up company in 2010 by some students from Skövde University . The studio's first game was the simple mobile phone game " I Love Strawberries ".

In 2018 the studio was taken over by the Swedish THQ Nordic AB (now Embracer Group).
