col legno is an Austrian independent company for the marketing of sound recordings record label - mainly from the fields of contemporary music , chamber music , jazz and world music . The label can look back on more than 300 releases.

history

The Vienna-based label col legno (according to the playing instruction "with the wood" ) initially only published contemporary serious music of the 20th century. In the early 2000s, the label ran into economic difficulties, whereupon financially strong music lovers took on the company. In 2006 the composer and musician Andreas Schett took over the artistic direction.

The label expanded its range of content to include any music that cannot be immediately located in a certain genre. Among other things, Wolfgang Mitterer 's Beethoven interpretation Nine in One , Ketan Batthi's debut album Nodding Terms, located somewhere between techno and avant-garde, in collaboration with the Ensemble Adapter, Marino Formenti's pianistic explorations of the night, the contemporary version of alpine folk music by the ensembles Federspiel and Alma were published ; as well as the reinterpretation of romantic songs from Franz Schubert to Gustav Mahler by the Musicbanda Franui , whose trumpeter and mastermind Schett is.

In 2015, Andreas Schett became the sole owner and managing director of col legno and runs the company together with the culture and music manager Robert Chr. Schulz.
