Coleman Barks

Coleman Barks (* 1937 in Chattanooga , Tennessee ) is an American poet and interpreter of the works of Rumi and other Persian mystics .

His interpretations, based on the extensive translations of the British Iranist Reynold A. Nicholson (1868-1945) into English, made Rumi the most popular poet in the United States of America and also contributed greatly to the popularization of Sufism in the Western world.

Because of this cross-cultural activities Coleman Barks in 2006 from the University of Tehran of honorary doctorates awarded.
