Colin Bateman
Colin Bateman (born June 1962 in Newtownards , County Down , Northern Ireland ) is a Northern Irish writer and crime writer .
Life
Bateman grew up in Bangor , Northern Ireland , where he attended Ballyholme Primary School and Bangor Grammar School until the age of 16. He then worked for the weekly County Down Spectator . In 1992 he wrote his first work Divorcing Jack , which was only published two years later by HarperCollins and won the Betty Trask Award in 1994 . With the publication he created the protagonist Dan Starkey, a Belfast journalist who appears in other books as the main actor ( Of Wee Sweetie Mice and Men , Turbulent Priests , Shooting Sean , The Horse With My Name , Driving Big Davie and Belfast Confidential ). Another series character was created in 2002 with Martin Murphy, who appears in the books Murphy's Law and Murphy's Revenge and was dedicated to the British television series Murphy 'Law on BBC One (2001-2007, 23 episodes) starring James Nesbitt .
