The Collegium Maius is the oldest building of the Jagellon University in Krakow .

history

Jagiellonian University was founded in 1364. In 1400 King Władysław II. Jagiełło bought the house as the seat of the university from the estate of Hedwig von Anjou . The house has been expanded several times, so that large parts of the structure date from the 15th century; Cloisters were created in the inner courtyard. In the middle of the 15th century the building was named “Collegium Maius”.

Lecture halls were located on the ground floor, the “Stuba Communis”, the library and living rooms for professors on the upper floor.

In the 19th century, the building was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style and adapted to the conditions of the library.

After the collections were moved to the new Jagiellonian library building , the Collegium Maius became the seat of the university museum .
