Wilhelm Simson

Wilhelm Simson (born August 16, 1938 in Cologne ) is a German chemist and business manager.

Career

After graduating from high school in Ingolstadt in 1959 and completing military service, he studied chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU). In 1968 he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. PhD . He started his first job at Diamalt AG in Munich that same year . For three years he was responsible for the laboratory, application technology and production departments. In 1971, Simson went to ICI Lacke-Farben in Hilden as a division manager for vehicle paints . In 1978 he became a member of the company's management and in 1982 chairman of the management. From 1984 to 1987 he was with the British parent company in Slough as a visiting director . In 1987 he was appointed Senior Executive Director of Imperial Chemical Industries , with responsibility for research, development and application technology. In 1989 he went back to Germany and became a board member of SKW Trostberg AG, responsible for agriculture, industrial and fine chemicals. In 1991 he became CEO of SKW Trostberg. He held this position until 1998. In that year he became CEO of VIAG AG, the parent company of SKW Trostberg at the time. After the merger of VIAG with VEBA AG to form E.ON , Simson became chairman of the board of the newly founded corporation together with Ulrich Hartmann . Both were replaced by Wulf Bernotat in May 2003 . Simson then moved to the company's supervisory board. He is also on the Supervisory Board of Hochtief . From January 1, 2006 to June 2009, he was also on the Supervisory Board of Merck KGaA .

Since February 1998 Simson has been honorary professor for technical chemistry at the LMU. In 1996 he received the Federal Cross of Merit . He is also holder of the Bavarian Order of Merit and Honorary Senator of the University of Passau (November 2003). From October 2001 to October 2003 Simson was President of the Association of the Chemical Industry .

Wilhelm Simson is married, has two children and lives in Munich and Trostberg.
