Heinz P. Kemper (born October 20, 1903 in Solingen ; † December 10, 1998 in Grainau ) was a German industrial manager and chairman of the board of Stinnes AG and VEBA AG.

Life

Heinz P. Kemper studied mechanical engineering at the Technikum Mittweida from 1921 to 1925 and later at the Technical University of Charlottenburg , at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh and at Columbia University in New York . He then gained various professional and managerial experience in American and German heavy industry. After the Second World War, the US military government in Germany ( OMGUS ) appointed Kemper as chief trustee for the confiscated assets of the Hugo Stinnes Corporation . At the same time he became chairman of the management board of Hugo Stinnes GmbH in Mülheim an der Ruhr .

In this double function, Kemper succeeded in the following years in saving the various parts of the former Stinnes Group from the threat of unbundling. In addition, he successfully endeavored to transfer back ( repatriation ) the part of the group that had once been confiscated by the US government as "enemy property". For this purpose, the seized shares were initially acquired by a German banking consortium in 1957 and in 1962 the American Stinnes industrial assets were transferred to the wholly-owned subsidiary Hugo Stinnes GmbH, managed by Kemper. At the same time, the company was converted into a stock corporation, of which Kemper took over as CEO.

Three years later (1965) the resulting Hugo Stinnes AG was taken over by VEBA AG. Kemper then moved to the top of the former state-owned company, which had only recently been partially privatized. In 1967 Kemper also became chairman of the board of directors of the Ruhr Mining Association and in 1969 chairman of the supervisory board of the newly created Ruhrkohle AG .

In 1971 Kemper moved from the VEBA board to the head of the supervisory board (until 1976); The new CEO was his previous closest colleague, Rudolf von Bennigsen-Foerder .
