Johannes Teyssen (born October 9, 1959 in Hildesheim ) is a German economist and lawyer . His uncle was Anton Teyssen . He has been CEO of E.ON SE since May 1, 2010 . On June 3, 2013, Teyssen was elected President of Eurelectric , the lobby group for the European electricity industry.

From 1979 to 1984 he studied economics and law in Freiburg and Göttingen . After conducting research in Boston , he was in 1991 at the University of Goettingen to the Dr. jur. PhD. His research included comparative law work on the relationship between the legislature and the judiciary in criminal procedural law.

Teyssen joined PreussenElektra in Hanover in 1989 , where he was most recently head of the legal department. In 1998 Teyssen joined the subsidiary Hannover-Braunschweigische Stromversorgungs-AG (HASTRA) in Hannover as a member of the board . In the course of the merger of HASTRA and four other energy supply companies to form Avacon , based in Helmstedt , he was appointed CEO of the new company in 1999, the majority (64.6 percent) of which is owned by E.ON Energie AG, which was created in July 2000 .

From March 2001 to the end of April 2003, he was a member of the E.ON Energie Management Board in Munich, where he was responsible for finance, and until 2007 was its CEO. Since January 2004 he has been a member of the E.ON SE Board of Management , from March 1, 2008 to May 1, 2010, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management and Chief Operating Officer, making him number two in the group after Wulf Bernotat . In early August 2009 it was announced that Teyssen would replace Bernotat as CEO with effect from May 1, 2010. In September 2017 it was announced that Johannes Teyssen's contract would be extended by another 3 years ahead of time, i.e. until the end of 2021.

In August 2010, Teyssen positioned himself as one of 40 signatories of the Energy Policy Appeal , a lobbying initiative of the four large electricity companies to promote the extension of the service life of German nuclear power plants. In 2013 he called for stricter climate protection. Europe is “a ridiculous figure” when it comes to climate protection, it is not a “pioneer in climate protection”, but “in reality a cheat”, he criticized.

Teyssen is a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Bank AG and Salzgitter AG . Teyssen is also a member of the foundation board of the ESMT European School of Management and Technology and Norwegian Honorary Consul General , responsible for the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia , Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland .
