Collon ( Irish : Collann ) is a small town in County Louth in the east of the Republic of Ireland .
Collon is about 12 km northwest of Drogheda in southwest County Louth, near the border with County Meath , on the N2 , 9 km north of Slane and 10 km south of Ardee .
The population of Collon was determined in the 2016 Census to be 896, almost a tripling of the population since 1996.
In Collon is the New Mellifont Abbey of the Trappists ; the historic Mellifont Abbey of the Cistercians was only a few kilometers south of Collon in Mellifont .
