History and description
The column is reminiscent of a meeting that took place here on February 4, 1452 , between Friedrich III. von Habsburg and Eleonora of Portugal , accompanied by 400 Sienese ladies and the presence of the then Archbishop of Siena Enea Silvio Piccolomini . This event made a great impression on society at the time that it was also represented by Pinturicchio in the Piccolomini library .
