Colparion madgei is an extinct land snail species that was endemic to Rodrigues . The species epithet honors the British malacologist Edward Henry Madge (1901–1970), who discovered the species.

features

In the case of living snails, the shell diameter was 15 mm and the shell height was 7.8 mm. The found subfossil cases have a diameter of 15 to 19 mm and a height of 7.8 to 8.4 mm. The flat, thin and fragile case had three turns. It appeared cut off at the base, with all the windings visible. Colparion madgei was a "half- slug " with a reduced shell and a very wide mouth and a very long body that could not be fully retracted into the shell.

The case was glossy, transparent to matt. The color of the case was light horn-colored. The antennae were dark flesh-colored. The rest of the body was lighter. The fine-grained jacket flaps almost completely covered the housing.

Systematics

Colparion madgei is the only species of the genus Colparion , which was established in 1938 by Frank Fortescue Laidlaw .

status

Colparion madgei was discovered by Edward Henry Madge in 1934. He collected the type specimens on the plants Syzygium jambos and Artocarpus heterophyllus in the Malartic Valley on Rodrigues. The last living specimens were recorded in 1958 by Jean-Michel Vinson. Colparion madgei was probably a victim of the rosy wolf snail ( Euglandina rosea ). Subfossil housing has been found in the limestone deposits at Caverne Patate in southwest Rodrigues.
