The Heutierchen ( Colpoda cucullus ) is a single-cell , living in freshwater ciliates . It has the shape of a bean or kidney, the left side of the body is notched in front of the middle. On the stomach side, the notch continues inside the body in the form of an elongated funnel. The base of the funnel is densely ciliated and swirls the food towards the cell mouth . The size of the hayfish is between 50 and 120 micrometers. Your food is bacteria .
Today animals live in bodies of water with rotting parts of plants; they are very numerous in Central Europe. They can also be found in hay infusions .
