The Colt Camp Perry Target Pistol is one of Colt's Patent Fire Arms Mfg. Co. manufactured single-shot sport pistol in caliber .22 lfB. A total of 2525 of these weapons were manufactured between 1926 and 1941.

It was intended to compete with the Straight Line Single Shot Pistol produced by Smith & Wesson from 1925 to 1936, a single-shot pistol with a drop barrel in the same caliber, of which a little over 1,800 were produced from 1925 to 1936.

technology

The grip of the Camp Perry pistol was based on that of the Officer's Model Revolver manufactured from 1904 , the weapon has no drum, but a cartridge chamber / barrel unit that can be swung out to the left for reloading. The gun has a single-action trigger, the hammer must always be re-cocked by hand before firing. As with the revolver, the fired case is ejected by an ejector rod located under the barrel.

Early models had a barrel length of 10 inches, later 8 inch barrels were also used. In 1934 the dropping distance of the hammer was shortened to shorten the time between pulling the trigger and igniting the cartridge. The cartridge chamber in caliber .22 lfB also allowed the shooting of .22 short cartridges . There are 2 known examples in caliber .38 Special . The weight of the weapon with the 10 inch barrel is 34½ ounces (1.19 kg).

Thanks to the cartridge chamber / barrel unit, the Camp Perry pistol is more precise than the Police Positive 22 Target revolvers produced at the same time . The reason is the loss of gas through the drum gap and the lateral play of the drum on the revolver.

Use of the weapon

As the name Colt Camp Perry Target Pistol implies, the weapon was used as a sport pistol and possibly for training troops. The Camp Perry shooting range is located on Lake Erie in Ottawa County, Ohio . It is a gun field of the United States National Guard and has also been used as a civilian sport shooting range.
