Sport pistol

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A sport pistol is a pistol that is generally used for the purpose of sporting competition ( sport shooting ).

Types of sport pistols

Sports pistols were developed as early as the 19th century. The Tesching is one of the well-known types from this period . Later, special versions of this type of weapon were created for various disciplines.

Air guns

The sport pistol as a compressed air weapon (or air pressure weapon ) is usually referred to as an air pistol, or LuPi for short.

There is a gun , wherein the projectile caliber 4.5 mm (.177 cal) by compressed air (which is why compressed air -Waffe) or CO 2 is driven gas. For precise shooting, diabolos are used as projectiles without exception , not round balls. When a diabolo is fired, the twist in the barrel sets it into rotation, which results in a stable flight position and thus high accuracy.

To generate the necessary gas pressure, the gun has either a pump lever, which is used to compress air, or a gas tank. The gas tank is either a compressed air cartridge (up to approx. 300 bar pressure, regular technical inspections are required for such containers) or a CO 2 capsule. Pistols with a gas tank can be designed with multiple shots. The trigger operates a valve that directs the compressed gas into the barrel and thus fires the projectile.

Firearms designed as a sport pistol

In their design, they differ considerably from conventional utility pistols. The most striking features are usually:

  • a very long line of sight
  • a sight that can usually be adjusted very extensively
  • an anatomically shaped pistol grip, often with adjustable palm rest and
  • often a magazine lying in front of the handle

The trigger of a sport pistol also has extensive adjustment options in position and location. Furthermore, the permitted minimum trigger weights are mostly below those of utility pistols. The trigger weight, i.e. the force that is required to trigger the shot, is a decisive factor for the precision when shooting. She is z. Utility pistols adapted as sport pistols

Comparison before / after trigger tuning, real shot pattern (10 shots, 25 meters, hands-free)

are utility pistols that have been modified for the purpose of sport shooting. In appearance they therefore often resemble the utility pistols from which they are derived. Usually the trigger weight is reduced. Often parts are revised or replaced to promote precision.

Rubber covers on the grips improve the control of the weapon, especially with rapid firing sequences. Due to the higher mass of the pistol, additional weights reduce the knocking up of the weapon due to the recoil. The magazine can be changed more quickly using a magazine funnel (JetFunnel), which is particularly advantageous in the IPSC discipline . A reflex sight , for example, can be mounted using a bridge . The illuminated dot reflected in the field of view then enables easier and more precise target acquisition, which is particularly important in poor lighting. Another sight can also be installed. A compensator minimizes the weapon kicking up.

caliber

In principle, many calibres can be used. However, the caliber .22 lfB is most common for pure sport pistols ( firearms ). There is also Olympic shooting.

But there are also competitions for large-caliber and muzzle-loading weapons .
