founding

In 1926, Jack O'Hea laid the foundation stone for the family business. He got into the business of William H. Colt, who ran a joinery and building joinery. They built wooden buildings, mostly chicken coops, which sold well thanks to effective ventilation. In 1926, Colt was the first company to commercially import cedar wood from Canada to England. In addition, an additional line of business was created with the sale of a cement-like compound called Ceamentum. In 1931 the partners separated. William H. Colt stayed in house building. They agreed that Jack O'Hea could continue to use the already established name Colt. With the aerodynamics technician Heinrich Kuckuck from Germany, he founded Colt Ventilation Ltd. in the summer of 1931, which is the starting signal for the Colt Group today. With the Colt Cowl, they developed a fan that was used in industry to extract smoke from chimneys. In 1937 Jack O'Hea secured the shares of William H. Colt and Heinrich Kuckuck and thus became the sole owner.

Success came after the war in 1945. At that time the company was selling 1,000 fans a week. In 1960 Colt expanded to Europe. With the help of Braat Bouwstoffen NV, Colt Ventilation Ltd. presented in Holland. At the same time they moved to Havant on the south coast of England. In 1966 Colt opened Colt Ventilation Technology GmbH in Kleve Germany, which was renamed Colt International GmbH in 1970.
