The Comando de Operações Táticas, or COT for short, is a special unit of the Brazilian Polícia Federal (Federal Police). The unit completes around 110 missions per year. Well-known missions were Operação Topeira , where a blow against the mafia organization PCC was successful. Aspirants are subjected to tough training and after one or two years a so-called baptism of fire follows, where the aspirants become full members of the unit. For a long time, trainings for favelas were held at the BOPE in Rio de Janeirocarried out. However, a separate facility was built for the COT, which simulates a favela.

In 1983 the Comissão Parlamentar Mista de Inquérito (Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry) recommended that the Ministry of Justice set up a special unit. The unit was founded in 1988 with a small group of police agents.
