The Comet Coach Company was an American coachbuilder based in Memphis (Tennessee) .

history

The company was founded in 1955 by Waldo J. Cotner (1909–2001), Robert Bevington (1911–2000) and Jack Pinner (1904–1989).

The Comet Coach Company mainly converted Oldsmobile and Chevrolet vehicles into ambulance and funeral vehicles. In addition, from 1956 DeSoto and Chrysler , as well as from 1957 Buick , Plymouth and Imperial were used as bases.

The frames of the vehicles were lengthened and the roof raised. Oldsmobile doors were used as the trunk lid.

In addition to these vehicles for companies, limousines were also offered on an extended frame.

In 1959, the company sold the brand name to the Ford Motor Company, which established a new series of vehicles for the Mercury brand from 1961 . The simultaneous exit of the co-owner Pinner led to the renaming of the company in Cotner-Bevington Corporation .

In the same year, production was relocated to a newly built plant in Blytheville (Arkansas).
