The commander in chief in Ireland ( English Commander-in-Chief, Ireland ) was the commander of British troops in Ireland during the period from the 18th century until the establishment of the Irish Free State as a result of the Anglo-Irish Treaty in 1922. The high-ranking officers of the British Army reserved post was temporarily associated with the office of Lord Lieutenant of Ireland .

In Northern Ireland, which was formed as part of the United Kingdom during the partition, there is now the post of General Officer Commanding , Northern Ireland .
