The Commerce Court is a complex of buildings. It consists of four high-rise office buildings and is located in the financial district of Toronto in Canada . The complex is owned by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC).
history
The first office building, also known as Commerce Court North, was built in 1930 and served as the headquarters of the Canadian Bank of Commerce. The building has 34 floors. The architects from Pearson and Darling and York and Sawyer were commissioned.
In 1972 three more buildings were built. Commerce Court West was designed by architects Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. It has 57 floors and was the tallest building in Canada from 1972 to 1976. This was followed by the Commerce Court East with 13 floors and the Commerce Court South with five floors.
In 1994 the architects were commissioned by Zeidler Partnership Architects to completely renovate the building.
