Conceição Lima , actually Maria de Conceição Costa de Deus Lima (born December 8, 1961 in Santana , São Tomé Island , Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe ) is a São Tomé poet and journalist.

Life

Conceição Lima and was born in the locality of Santana on the main island of São Tomé. She spent her childhood in São Tomé, where she attended school until she graduated from university. After studying journalism in Portugal, she returned to São Tomé, where she worked for various media such as television, radio and various newspapers. In the 1990s she was the founder and director of the weekly newspaper "O pais hoje" (The country today) and thus advanced to become one of the leading intellectuals in her country. Later, she went to London , where she received further study and at King's College lusoafrikanische and Brazilian languages and culture, and at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) African studies with a focus on policy. Subsequently, she was responsible for the production of the Portuguese language contributions for the BBC for more than 20 years . In 2010 she returned to São Tomé e Príncipe again to take on her own interview program on Santomenian state television. At the end of 2010 she was released after criticizing the government. Since then she has been working as a freelance journalist in São Tomé e Príncipe.

Her work initially appeared scattered in various anthologies, journals and magazines in various countries, for example in her home country São Tomé and Príncipe, but also in Portugal , Brazil , Austria , Spain , Angola , Colombia , Germany and Venezuela . Her first own book was published in Lisbon in 2004 with the title " O útero da casa " . Also in Lisbon two years later, A dolorosa raíz do Micondó appeared . Both volumes were published in 2010 under the title Die Gebuter des Haus in German translation by Juana and Tobias Burghardt. In 2011 she published the volume of poetry O País de Akendenguê , the title of which alludes to the Gabonese poet, philosopher and musician Pierre Akendengué . Her books have been translated into Spanish, English, Turkish and German. In 2012 all three books appeared for the first time in a Saotomesian edition. In 2013, Conceição Lima was a participant in the African Literature Days organized by Litprom in Frankfurt am Main.
