Concordia Peace Bell on the Kronplatz
Assembly of the bell in summer 2003

Concordia 2000 is the name of the bell on the summit of the 2275 meter high Kronplatz in South Tyrol . The bell was installed at the top of a viewing platform in the summer of 2003 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Kronplatz ski area in cooperation with the municipalities of Bruneck , Olang and Enneberg . It is also intended to commemorate the development pioneers of Plan de Corones and is dedicated to Saint Bernard , the patron saint of mountain and skiing sports. The donors of the bell were the four lift companies of the ski area Kronplatzseilbahn, Olanger Seilbahnen, Seilbahnen St. Vigil and Skiarea Miara.

The bell is one of the largest in the Alpine region. It weighs 18.1 tons and measures 3 meters in diameter and 3.11 meters in height. A forged bell clapper weighing 500 kilograms makes it sound on the strike note C sharp 0 . The drive takes place via two electrically driven ringing machines with electronic control. The external artistic design was the responsibility of the Val Gardena artist Paul dë Doss-Moroder .

The bell was cast in 2002 by the Oberascher bell foundry in Salzburg , and the casting succeeded on the third attempt. This was Oberascher's last bell casting before the closure. Before it was transported to South Tyrol, the bell was exhibited on Kapitelplatz near Salzburg Cathedral .

The viewing platform with a circular foundation, designed by the Marebbe architect August Gasser and located in the Marebbe municipality, has a diameter of 11 meters and is provided with a panoramic bronze relief. The electrically heated relief with a total length of 35.28 meters and a weight of about 2580 kilograms shows the surrounding mountains with names and heights as well as the directions of some important European cities. The steel bell cage, which supports the bell and mechanism, stands above the platform. The total height of the bell tower, which tapers to a point at the top, is 21.8 meters.

The Concordia 2000 is designed as a peace bell. Their Latin inscription "Donet deus populis pacem" means in German "God give peace to the people". In addition to the daily ringing at 12:00 p.m., the bell also rings when the death penalty has been revoked or a convicted person has been pardoned in a state and when a war is over.
