The Confederation of European Security Services , CoESS for short , is the European umbrella organization for the private security industry .

The association was founded at a meeting on October 26, 1989 in Rome by then six national associations, including the Federal Association of German Guard and Security Companies . The founding president was Enrique Duval from Spain. Today, CoESS has 21 national associations from EU countries as well as the umbrella associations of Switzerland and Turkey as full members and 5 associations (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia , Macedonia , Norway , Serbia ) as associated members.

The European security industry employs 1.7 million people in over 30,000 companies (2009) and has a turnover of 15 billion euros.

The main task of the CoESS is the so-called social dialogue with the European Union . The social dialogue is an instrument of policy advice to the EU prior to the adoption of new directives or regulations by the European Commission , in which the business circles concerned are heard.

Essential items were and are work profiles, job profiles, training issues and award guidelines for security services, insofar as the EU guidelines develop. So developed CoESS 1999, together with UNI-Europa , the European umbrella organization of trade unions , a joint opinion on public procurement law . The statement was prepared by a Europe-wide study on procurement practices commissioned one year in advance.

The association maintains working groups on the subjects of security , transport of valuables , electronic surveillance, airport security , social dialogue, cohesion , maritime security and critical infrastructure .
