Gottlieb Wallisch (born August 7, 1978 in Vienna ) is an Austrian pianist .

Life

Wallisch comes from a Viennese family of musicians. His great uncle Johann Nepomuk David (1895–1977) was a composer of the 20th century. At the age of six and a half, Wallisch was accepted as the youngest student at the time in the gifted class at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He attended the Schottengymnasium in Vienna.

He completed his studies in Vienna with Heinz Medjimorec. Masterclasses with Oleg Maisenberg and Dimitri Bashkirov as well as the collaboration with Pascal Devoyon at the University of the Arts in Berlin and Jacques Rouvier in Paris provided further artistic impulses . As a prizewinner in international competitions, he won first prize at the Stravinsky Award in the USA; He was also a finalist in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and the XXI. International Clara Haskil Piano Competition in Vevey 2005.

Concert career

Wallisch gave his first concert at the age of seven. At the age of twelve he made his debut in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein . A concert conducted by Lord Yehudi Menuhin in 1996 marked the beginning of his international career. Wallisch is now one of the most versatile pianists in his country. In his programs he often bridges the gap between Viennese classical music and contemporary music. First recordings and world premieres are evidence of this. One of Wallisch's most important appearances in recent years was the world premiere of Sebastian Themessl's trio for piano, violin and metronome at the European Forum Alpbach in 2008.

The conductors under whose direction Wallisch gave concerts include Giuseppe Sinopoli (1946–2001), Sir Neville Marriner , Christopher Hogwood , Dennis Russell Davies , Kirill Petrenko , Louis Langrée , Lawrence Foster , Walter Weller , Philippe Entremont , Martin Haselböck , Bruno Weil , Hartmut Haenchen and Helmut Müller-Brühl . In recent years he has played with the Vienna Philharmonic , the Vienna Symphony , the Camerata Salzburg , the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra , the Frankfurt Radio Symphony , the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra , the Festival Strings Lucerne and the Kobe City Chamber Orchestra. His chamber music partners included the Henschel Quartet , the Artis Quartet , the Wiener Virtuosen, Benjamin Schmid , Oleg Maisenberg, Milan Turković , Matthias Schorn and Julian Rachlin .

In 2001 Wallisch was selected for the international concert series "Rising Stars". In the Musikverein Wien he played two of his own concert cycles in the Mozart year 2006 and the Haydn year 2009. He also appears in various concert halls and at festivals such as the Salzburg Festival , the Lucerne Festival , the Beethoven Festival Bonn, the Ruhr Piano Festival and the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg . In 2012 he was added to the list of "Steinway Artists".

engagement

Wallisch, the soprano Anna Maria Pammer and the composer John Sarkissian founded the “Austro-Armenian Music Festival”, which had its premiere in October 2009 in Yerevan. Wallisch is also involved in “Rhapsody in School”, a project to convey music to young people, which was initiated by the pianist Lars Vogt . In 2011 he founded the "International Summer Academy Lans" in Tyrol with the Tyrolean composer Sebastian Themessl.

In 2010, Wallisch was appointed professor of piano at the Geneva School of Music (Haute Ecole de Musique Genève - Neuchâtel). In 2013 he was also a visiting professor at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. In 2016 he was offered a professorship at the University of the Arts (UdK) Berlin.
