Confectionery drawer
A confectioner's drawer is a piece of equipment in North German Protestant churches that was in use until the beginning of the 20th century . It consists of a wooden drawer with slots. Here the parishioners of the individual villages that belong to a parish could post notes with their names if they wished to take part in the Lord's Supper .
Personal confession was a prerequisite for this participation ; the charge is therefore an attempt by the priest or pastor to see to coordinate the Beichtgespräche.
This practice is no longer common in the Protestant Church today. Today, confession is usually practiced in the form of a jointly spoken confession of guilt and in the form of the absolution from sins which the pastor subsequently pronounced and is not always an integral part of the sacrament liturgy.
Confectioners' shops can still be seen in the following churches:
- Church of St. Nicolai auf Föhr in Boldixum, district of Wyk auf Föhr
- St. Laurentii in Süderende on Föhr
