Friedrich Christoph Gestewitz
Friedrich Christoph Gestewitz (born November 3, 1753 in Prieschka ; † August 1, 1805 in Dresden ) was a composer and conductor from the Electoral Saxony region .
Life
Gestewitz is said to have been employed as music director for the entrepreneur of the German theater in Dresden and Leipzig, Pasquale Bondini , in 1777 , left the company in 1783, but returned in 1784. In 1790 he came to the electoral Italian opera in Dresden as music master (maestrino). There he received a lifelong position in 1799.
In addition to his official position in Dresden, he was a valued teacher of music and especially singing. Charlotte Häser in particular became known among his students . As a composer, however, he showed more knowledge and diligence than talent.
Gestewitz was the brother-in-law and student of Johann Adam Hiller . He wasn't married.
