al-Khasab

Al-Chasab ( Arabic الخصب, DMG al-Ḫaṣab ; Alternative spelling from English: Khasab ) is a city in the Musandam Governorate in Oman . It lies on the Strait of Hormuz , a strait only a few nautical miles wide that connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea . In 2003 the city had 17,730 inhabitants.
history
During the reign of Sultan Taimur ibn Faisal , the places al-Chasab and Qadah were bombarded by British warships on April 21, 1930. The trigger was the refusal of the local Sheikh ( Wali ) to come to Muscat to see the Sultan. The surrounding mountains and the fortress in al-Khasab were shelled for three days until the sheikh finally gave up and was brought to Muscat. He fled from there and returned to al-Khasab. When he was captured again, he was deposed and replaced by a relative of the Sultan.
Caçapo fortress
The Portuguese built a fortress in Caçapo . The round tower dates from 1623, while the rest of the fortress is from a later period ( 26 ° 11 ′ 53.1 ″ N , 56 ° 14 ′ 57.1 ″ E ). The fortress was restored in 1990.

Chasab Airport is to the west of the city .

A little outside of the city is a small, modern port that is also used by cruise ships. ( 26 ° 12 ′ 35 " N , 56 ° 14 ′ 36" E ). A free trade zone is also to be created there.

The submarine cable FALCON lands in al-Chasab .
