The Connecticut State Route 81 (abbreviated CT 81 ) is a state highway in the US state of Connecticut , the north-south direction is in.

The State Route begins on US Highway 1 in Clinton and ends after 16 miles in Haddam on Connecticut State Route 154 . In north Clinton it meets Interstate 95 and in Killingworth it intersects Connecticut State Routes 80 and 148 . Shortly before Haddam, the CT 81 passes Connecticut State Route 9 , an important east-west tangent parallel to the Connecticut River .

history

Today's CT 81 was a private road in the 19th century and a toll road between 1813 and 1850. It was known as the Killingworth and Haddam Turnpike . In 1922, the road was added to the State Routes system and was numbered 106. After the numbers were reassigned in 1932, it was numbered 81.
