Conrad Bäumer
Conrad Bäumer (born April 12, 1878 in Münster , † June 12, 1960 in Osnabrück ) was a German cathedral organist , composer and cathedral choir director in Osnabrück.
From 1906 to 1958 Conrad Bäumer worked as a cathedral organist at the High Cathedral in Osnabrück , and from 1913 to 1948 director of the cathedral choir. Conrad Bäumer was one of the leading men in the church music reform movement. At the age of 28 he was called to Osnabrück as cathedral organist. His self-written “Organ accompaniment for the hymn book of the Diocese of Osnabrück” and his “Choral preludes for the entire church year” are a lasting legacy of church music tradition and the art of composition.
Conrad Bäumer was equally successful as a choir conductor and music teacher. He brought up the Osnabrück Cathedral Choir, with the boys' voices he trained, to become one of the most respected church choirs in Germany. The performances of the choir during Holy Week - the “Düsteren Metten” on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday - were regularly broadcast by radio ( NDR ). The cultivation of Gregorian chant was particularly close to his heart. Conrad Bäumer composed, among other things, a romantic fantasy variation on the Christmas carol " Silent Night, Holy Night ", as well as a prelude to " Jesus, my confidence ".
Conrad Bäumer rests in the Hasefriedhof in Osnabrück .
