Baron Conrad von Ranck (* 1664 ; † September 6, 1739 in Hamburg ) was a Swedish and Hesse-Kassel lieutenant general and governor of the Rheinfels fortress .

Life

His father was the Swedish major general and governor of Halland Sven Anderson Ranck (1616–1684) and his wife Anna geb. Bergengren (1638-1716).

Conrad von Ranck rose to the position of major general in Swedish service until 1714 and then switched to Hesse-Kassel services when Georg Heinrich von Görtz became de facto head of government in Sweden . There he became lieutenant general and commandant of the Rheinfeld fortress. On February 12, 1717, he was sent to London as Landgrave Karl's envoy to demand missing subsidies . Before that, he arranged the wedding of the Swedish princess Ulrika Eleonore , sister of the Swedish king Karl XII. , with Prince Friedrich von Hessen , who later became King of Sweden.

At the end of 1717 he wanted to travel to Sweden via Stralsund, which was then Swedish . But there he was arrested by Görtzen's people and his papers were confiscated. He was only able to continue traveling after the intervention of Landgrave Karl and the Dutch government.

After the overthrow of the Swedish Minister Georg Heinrich von Görtz in 1719, he returned to the Swedish service as Lieutenant General in 1720. He spent the last years of his life in Hamburg, where he died in 1739.

family

In 1714 he married Anna Meta von Schlitz called von Görtz (1686–1762), daughter of the first state minister in Hanover, Friedrich Wilhelm von Schlitz (1647–1728) and widow of the privy councilor and chamber president from Hanover Bodo von Oberg († 1713).
