history

The cooperative company Conserve Italia was founded in 1976 by 9 fruit and vegetable cooperatives .

Initially focused mainly on the Italian market, the consortium began to expand its sales internationally in the 1980s . A marketing and sales company was founded in London in 1983 , and a contract was signed with the Japanese company Ohmy Foods Ltd in 1988 , which includes the exclusive supply of canned tomatoes .

In the 1990s, Conserve Italia was able to continue this strategy even more successfully, starting with the takeover of two companies in France in 1990.

The German company Warburger GmbH has been part of the group since 1991 and has been operating under the name Conserve Italia Deutschland GmbH since 2014.

In 1996 a trading company was founded in Poland . In the following year, two more companies in France were bought and finally merged under the umbrella company Conserve France .

At the same time, various companies and brands were also taken over in Italy, so that in 2002 the consortium already comprised 16 plants and achieved sales of 795 million euros.

In 2004 Conserve Italia took over the insolvent canning manufacturer Cirio De Rica . At that time, Conserve Italia already had an estimated annual turnover of 900 million euros. Conserve Italia also achieved annual sales of around 900 million euros in the 2016/17 financial year.

Based on sales data from May to June 2006, Conserve Italia held a 27.9% share of the Italian market for peeled tomatoes and tomato paste .

The Conserve Italia group has around 14,500 farmers organized in cooperatives. Another 3000 employees are employed in the processing of the products in the factories.
