Considerantes dudum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The papal bull Considerantes dudum was issued by Clement V on May 6, 1312 at the Council of Vienne . The bulls Vox in excelso (prohibition of the Templars) and Ad providam (distribution of goods by the Templars) were announced within a short time . With the bull Considerantes dudum , the future of all former members of the order under arrest was decided. Those who had admitted their errors and repented received payments from the confiscated monastic assets and were able to live in a monastery , in another knightly order or, like some brothers in England , Spain and Italy , on the proceeds of their former commanderies or other possessions.

With very few exceptions, Pope Clement V transfers jurisdiction over the unrepentant to the diocesan bishops in Considerantes dudum , but those who confess should be treated with justice and grace. Those who had not yet been summoned for interrogation and those who had escaped the authority of the Holy See and were fleeting were given a one-year period beginning on the date of the bull's publication. If these persons do not submit to the jurisdiction of the dioceses by the end of the period, they will incur the penalty of excommunication and, since it is a question of faith, are to be regarded as heretics .
