Constantin Dobrogeanu-Gherea (born May 21, 1855 in Slavyanka, Yekaterinoslav Governorate , Russian Empire , today Ukraine ; † May 7, 1920 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian author and politician .

Dobrogeanu-Gherea was born Solomon Katz to a Jewish-Ukrainian family. He graduated from high school in Kharkov , but then ran a blacksmith's shop in Slavyanka for a while and later worked in Romania and Switzerland as a blacksmith or locksmith.

Later he went to Romania and started working for a socialist transformation of the country. He belongs to the generation of Ion Luca Caragiale , Mihai Eminescu and Titu Maiorescu .

His main work Neo-iobagic or The New Serfdom deals with the semi-feudal living conditions of Romanian farmers.
