General

The platform was launched publicly on April 12, 2011 with the TrackJack application ( Java ), which carries out trajectory optimization (orbital path shapes). Further applications were being planned.

Constellation was supported by the DGLR and Rechenkraft.net e. V. supports.

In 2011, a hybrid rocket was optimized in flight altitude by another Stuttgart DGLR junior research group, HyEnD. Further sub-projects for the platform were sought through an “invitation codes against ideas” campaign among the volunteers.

On December 28, 2011, the project “Distributed Ground Station Network” for the Hackerspace Global Grid was presented at 28c3 , which was being worked on at Constellation and the Stuttgart Hackerspace shackspace .

On 21-22 In April 2012, Constellation and shackspace hosted NASA's International Space Applications Challenge, a global competition (even on the International Space Station and in Antarctica) to create apps to solve global challenges in Stuttgart. In addition, Constellation applied for the ESA Summer of Code in Space 2012. On October 27, 2012, Constellation will co-host the SpaceUp unconference in Stuttgart. The second application, TYCHO, was launched on April 12, 2013 for the two-year existence of the platform. Constellation was one of 177 open source organizations that participated in the Google Summer of Code (GSOC) in 2013 . At GSOC, students program for these organizations with financial support from Google .
