The Bielefeld Ost container station was an operationally closed transshipment station for combined loading traffic in the East Westphalian city of Bielefeld . It was dismantled in 2019.

location

The station was on the Bielefeld – Hameln railway line . In addition to the Minden port container terminal, it was another container terminal in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region. In 2002 the eight-track terminus station was shut down. There are two container cranes on the disused site that are used for loading lorry containers.

Operational outlook

The station was to serve the delivery traffic to the new container terminal in Lehrte , which may be operating worldwide from 2013 . Regional Container Station Bielefeld East should be the central linking the region of East Westphalia-Lippe to the combined transport serve. In addition, the Teutoburg Forest Railway operates a terminal for combined transport in Gütersloh - Spexard in the immediate vicinity of the A2 . Nothing came of that, the container terminal was dismantled in 2019.

Current

In 2006 the Bielefeld container station was discussed as the location of the Westfalenbahn , but the railway company decided otherwise. The DB Netz AG in Duisburg, owner of the land wants to shut down the station and give the grounds. Accordingly, the BahnflächenEntwicklungsGesellschaft NRW (BEG), responsible for unused railway areas and their marketing in North Rhine-Westphalia , was involved. The container station is no longer included in the current documents of DB Netz AG for their service facilities / stations.

Since October 2009, Westfälische Localbahn eV, which was wound up in 2015, had a location for its historic vehicles on the edge of the site . At the beginning of 2011 this association was discussed as a possible operator of the plant.

According to press reports, however, the final closure in 2010 and the sale of the property to a hardware store or furniture store are under discussion.

The 41t loading bridge was sold to the Netherlands in May 2017 and dismantled.

In October 2017, the Federal Railway Authority published that the DB applied for the tracks to be dismantled. The tracks of the former train station were then completely dismantled in 2019
