Content management
Content management ( CM ) is a collective term for activities, processes and tools that support the life cycle of digital information in the form of documents. A content management system ( CMS ) organizes these activities and archives the content. The digital information - text, image, audio, video - is often referred to as content , it can exist as files that are processed individually or as coherent file systems such as websites ( hypertext ) or in a structured form such as in databases .
Content lifecycle
The life cycle of such records and documents typically goes through six basic phases:
- generation
- revision
- publication
- translation
- Filing and archiving
- excretion
Content management is characterized by cooperative processes and activities. The following basic roles are often found:
- Author - responsible for creating and revising the content
- Editor - responsible for fine-tuning the document and for how it is published
- Publisher - responsible for the physical release of the content
- Administrator - responsible for managing various issues of the content as well as storing it so that it can be found and processed.
Version management
A critical factor in content management is the administration of the different versions, see also version control . The automated processes in the context of content management are supported by content management systems (CMS).
