Coober Pedy is located in the center of the outback of South Australia and is about 840 kilometers from the metropolis of Adelaide . The District Council covers the area around the village of Coober Pedy , where the administrative headquarters are also located.

The Coober Pedy council has nine members, the eight councilors and the chairman and mayor of the council are elected by the residents of the LGA. Coober Pedy is not divided into districts.
