Coordinates: 34 ° 50 ' S , 147 ° 12' O coolamon Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 2,430.9 km² and has about 4,300 inhabitants.
Coolamon is located in the south of the state in the Murrumbidgee region about 500 km southwest of the metropolis of Sydney , 290 km northwest of Canberra and 480 km northeast of Melbourne . The area includes 28 hamlets and towns: Ashbridge, Berry Jerry, Berry Jerry North, Brushwood, Carlisle Park, Cowabbie, Cowabbie West, Derain, Dulah, Kindra, Kinilabah, Methul, Murrulebale, Pamandi, Rannock, Walleroobie, Winchendon Vale, Yarranjerry as well Parts of Ardlethan, Beckom, Coolamon, Ganmain, Grong Grong, Kamarah, Marrar, Matong, Mimosa and Mirrool. The headquarters of the Shire Council is in Coolamon in the south of the LGA, where about 1,700 people live.

The Coolamon Shire Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. Coolamon is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
