Coordinates: 30 ° 57 ' S , 148 ° 24' O Coonamble Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 9,916.1 km² and has about 3,900 inhabitants.
Coonamble is located in the north-western region about 530 km northwest of the metropolis Sydney . The area includes 61 hamlets and hamlets, including Coonamble, Gular, Quambone, Warrumbungle and part of Gulargambone. The headquarters of the Shire Council is in Coonamble in the center of the LGA, where about 2,400 residents live.

The Coonamble Shire Council has nine members who are elected by the residents of the three wards (three councilors each from A, B and C ward). These three districts are defined independently of the localities. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
