Coordinates: 34 ° 39 ' S , 148 ° 2' O Cootamundra Shire was a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area was 1,524 km² and last had about 7,300 inhabitants. In 2016, it went up in the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council .
Cootamundra was in the east of the Murrumbidgee region about 170 km northwest of the Australian capital Canberra and 380 km west of the metropolis of Sydney . The area comprised 19 hamlets and hamlets: Brawlin, Carinyah, Cootamundra, Cullinga, Dudauman, Frampton, Gundibindyal, Jindalee, Kilrush, Kyron, Landgrove, Meemar, Morrisons Hill, Stockinbingal, Wallendbeen, Willows, Yannawah, Yeo Jugiong and part of Yeo Jugiong . The seat of the Shire Council was in Cootamundra, which is now about 5,669 residents.

The Cootamundra Shire Council had twelve members who were elected by the residents of the LGA. Cootamundra was not divided into districts. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
