Copernicus Scholarship (also Copernicus Program , Copernicus Scholarship Program ) is a scholarship (scholarship program) for the promotion of the training of qualified East , Central and Southeast European and Central Asian students in Germany. Origin and history

Copernicus eV takes its name from Nikolaus Kopernikus , a well-known mathematician of the Prussian population of Poland in the 16th century. The association was founded in 1992 by students in Hamburg . The main idea of ​​the association is to strengthen the relations between Germany and Eastern Europe through cultural exchange. In the meantime there was also an association in Munich (1995–2012) and since 2000 there has also been Copernicus in Berlin . Since then, numerous students from various countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia have been able to stay in Germany through a grant.

Scholarship program

Copernicus eV offers a scholarship for students that consists of several components:

Education

The scholarship holders study for one semester in Hamburg or Berlin. At the beginning of the semester, it is determined how many courses you have to complete for the program. They also attend a German course.

host family

The scholarship holders live with host families. This enables them to get to know life in Germany and the German culture better.

Cultural framework

The scholarship holders are actively involved in the association's work. At the same time, the course is accompanied by numerous cultural highlights: country evenings, seminars, lectures, social meetings, etc.

internship

At the end of the semester, the scholarship holders complete a 6-week internship. During the application process they are supported by their mentors.
