Copi nature reserve

The Copi nature reserve is located in Suriname , in the Para district , in the catchment area of ​​the Cassewinica, a left tributary of the Commewijne .

The reserve was established in 1986 and covers an area of ​​around 180 km² . It serves to protect the savannah species that occur here . The Cassewinica is also known for its abundance of fish and there are nesting places for otters and caimans . Part of the cordon path laid out in the second half of the 18th century also runs in the reserve . This historical complex of 94 km in length with its military posts was supposed to protect the plantations against attacks by the Maroons .
