The Corbin Building is a nine-story building in Manhattan , New York City . The former office building was designed by the architect Francis H. Kimball , built in 1888 and opened in 1889. It was named after the President of the Long Island Rail Road , Austin Corbin. It's located at 192 Broadway .

history

When it was built, the building was one of the tallest in the city and mostly housed offices. In the year it opened, the penthouse was a particular highlight of the building. The facade consists of a mix of brick, stone and terracotta. On December 18, 2003, it was entered on the National Register of Historic Places under number 05001287 .

Latest developments

As part of the new project of the Fulton Street Transit Center , which is located right next to the Corbin Building, the planned New York City Transit Authority originally demolish the building, however, local associations and representatives braced the Landmarks Preservation Commission , however and obtained that the building was placed under monument protection. The new plans envisage that the building will be completely restored. In order to restore the state around the turn of the century, both the facade and the use of a new roof are to be renovated. However, the lower floors will be converted into the entrances to the Transit Center.
