Coresi , also known as Deacon Coresi (year of birth unknown; died 1583 in Brașov ), was a Romanian printer and translator of the 16th century. His work marks the beginning of the emergence of Romanian literature and standard language . Many of the oldest printed books in Romanian were edited by him.

biography

Coresi first worked in Târgovişte , but then moved to Braşov , where he had books printed in his workshop in both the Church Slavonic language that was customary at the time and in Romanian. He was probably also instrumental in translating the New Testament Gospels and other works of Christian literature into the Romanian language.
