Corky Corcoran
Gene "Corky" Corcoran (born July 28, 1924 in Tacoma (Washington) ; † October 3, 1979 ibid) was an American jazz saxophonist (tenor).
Already at the age of 16 Corcoran impressed with his playing Jimmie Lunceford , who heard him in Tacoma, became a member of Sonny Dunham's Territory Band in 1940 and a year later he switched to Harry James ' band , where he became known as a soloist. In 1948 he accepted an offer from Tommy Dorsey , then switched between revival appearances with Harry James and his own band projects and recorded several albums under his own name. He later played mainly in his native Washington in the Seattle area.
