Corky Siegel (* 24. October 1943 in Chicago , Illinois , as Mark Paul Siegel ) is an American musician (harmonica, piano), singer and composer. He is a member of the Siegel-Schwall Band and founder of the Chamber Blues Group.

biography

In 1964, the two music students Corky Siegel and Jim Schwall founded the blues rock group Siegel-Schwall Band . At first, the two performed as a duo before becoming a quartet with bassist and drummer.

The Siegel-Schwall Band appeared in 1968 as the first blues band with a symphony orchestra. William Russo's Three Pieces for Blues Band and Symphony Orchestra was released by Deutsche Grammophon in 1973 .

Without the Siegel-Schwall Band, Corky Siegel recorded Street Music: A Blues Concerto with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra in 1975 , also composed by William Russo; The conductor Seiji Ozawa was also the same as with the Three Pieces . Street Music first appeared on record in 1979.

In 1988 Siegel founded the Chamber Blues Group, which combines classical music with blues and jazz. The group consisted of a string quartet, a percussionist and Siegel on the harmonica, sometimes also on the piano.

In addition to numerous other musical projects, Siegel was a member of the Chicago Blues Reunion band in 2004, which released the album Buried Alive in the Blues .

Together with Peter Krammer, Corky Siegel wrote a book for musicians and music students. Let Your Music Soar: The Emotional Connection was released in 2007.
